Is Disney Going to Make a X Men Movie
Iron Man 3 is NOT a Christmas Movie, According to Disney+'s Holiday Collection
While Disney+'s listed Home Alone, Die Hard, and even Marvel Studios Hawkeye in its holiday collection, Iron Man 3 is nowhere to be found.
According to Disney+'s holiday collection, Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3 is not a Christmas movie. Before Disney+'s Hawkeye this year, Shane Black'sIron Man 3was the only MCU film concerned with the holiday season. Before writing and directing Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) third solo outing, Black was best known for penningLethal Weapon (1989) and helming films such as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)—both of which occur during the season.
In Iron Man 3, Tony struggles with anxiety following the Battle of New York before coming into conflict with the supposed Ten Rings Organization and the faux Mandarin. Like his other films,Iron Man 3 is framed by a Christmas backdrop, equipped with a rendition of "Jingle Bells," presents, and holiday cheer. However, although the movie utilizes Black's signature style and takes place around Christmas, likeLethal WeaponandKiss Kiss Bang Bang, it isn't necessarily considered a Christmas movie. At least not according to Disney+.
The United Kingdom's Disney+ server (viaThe Direct) recently curated a "Merry Christmas" collection just in time for the holiday season featuring over 40 titles across the streaming service. The list includes the entireHome Alone franchise,The Santa Claus, A Christmas Carol,Frozen, Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and even Die Hard. The MCU's Hawkeye is listed in the streamer's "originals" category. However,Iron Man 3 is nowhere to be found.
Marvel is leaning to the Christmas vibe withHawkeye, which is the studio's new holiday champ. The series follows Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) in NYC two years after the events ofAvengers: Endgame. Heavily influenced by Matt Fraction and David Aja's comicMy Life As A Weapon,Hawkeyeintroduces Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, a Hawkeye superfan who, with the help of Clint, must defuse a criminal conspiracy involving a Grinch-like Kingpin in the hopes that the elder Hawkeye can make it home in time for Christmas. Aided by theLethal Weapon-esque chemistry of its leads and music (among other things),Hawkeye isn't a far cry fromDie Hard orHome Alone.
Ironically,Die Hard remains perhaps the most hotly debated "Christmas movie." IfDie Hardmakes Disney+'s collection, one would thinkIron Man 3 would as well. Many, including Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, consider that film to be a Christmas movie and it has been described as such on Marvel's website a couple of years ago. That being said, Iron Man 3 's exclusion is likely just an oversight.
